Citrine
A member of the silica family, citrine is a yellow quartz. The stone naturally occurs in a wide range of hues, from very light yellow to golden brown. The Maison selects citrines with the purest possible crystallization and a bright, lively hue that evokes summer. Only specimens with the fewest inclusions are selected to ensure a high level of transparency and vividness. Citrine may naturally have "whiter" areas that are devoid of color. These are excluded from the selection process. The Maison places great emphasis on the quality of the cut. It must be precise and symmetrical to guarantee optimal light reflection.
Citrine was particularly popular with the Maison between the 1950s and 1970s. Combined with the solar brilliance of yellow gold, the gem adorns a Poisson voile clip from 1957, a Whirl ring from 1960 and a transformable long necklace from 1972. Today, citrine is traditionally magnified in High Jewelry creations, such as the Fresque céleste clip (Le Grand Tour raconté par Van Cleef & Arpels collection, 2023), which combines an 8.62-carat engraved cabochon with scrolls of diamonds. In 2025, it is one of the five gemstone varieties in the Fleurs d'Hawaï collection.
Citrine is relatively durable and easy to care for. However, we recommend keeping it away from heat and therefore not wearing it in hot, humid environments (showers, saunas, hammams). To preserve its beauty over time, Van Cleef & Arpels recommends storing it in a case and cleaning it as necessary with soapy water and a soft brush, before drying it with a cloth.
